flaunt your updates
You might already know about the new(ish) Firefox browser release. If you do, ask yourself how you found out about it…
I like to stay on top of new product releases, so I always keep my “check for new updates” option selected. This goes for all computer programs I use, especially web browsers, including Firefox. Realizing that technology is not perfect, I occasionally run the manual check for new updates via the application, just in case the periodic automatic check doesn’t occur periodically enough.
Imagine my surprise this morning when I ran the manual Firefox update check, was informed there are no available updates, and then found a new Firefox release listed on their homepage (www.mozilla.com/firefox). Why didn’t the browser automatically detect this update? Why didn’t my manual check detect it? Why am I forced to visit the website to learn about the update? Don’t get me wrong - I love Firefox, and I’m thankful for such a solid (and free) alternative to the evil Microsoft empire. But it frustrates me to see such a sloppy product release process.
Hats off to Apple for the always up-to-the-minute notifications of new iTunes releases. Never a user left behind.
